Picture Me!

S always wants me to "picture" her whenever I take my camera out. She grabs a prop, tilts her head just so, then flashes me the SMILE.

Birthday Pages

I caught up on a few birthday layouts over the weekend.

April Freebie Kits

There are hundreds of freebies on the web, but I'm looking for the ones that have several papers and elements that coordinate - often called kits or mini kits. Here are the links to what I've found so far this month:

Pink Poodle Studios - HUGE kit given away for an April contest

Lindsay Jane Designs

Designs by Krista

Sweet Digi Creations

Artistic Musings - scroll down for mini kit - link only available for a week

Oscraps - the Queen of Quirky put up a new freebie kit named Orbital

Kris Myers Designs - there is a large collection of various colored ribbons toward the bottom

jennyscrapplace - this one is definitely the find of the month - MANY kits for free here

Rounding Corners in Photoshop Elements

I pulled out the digital corner rounder for this one, and cut away. I had to figure out a good way to round those corners, and I'm sure there are more ways to do it. I basically made a clipping path with the rounded rectangle tool, then placed the layer I wanted to crop on top of the rounded rectangle. After selecting the layer I wanted to crop, I pushed cntrl-G. To simplify further editing, I then selected both the cropped shape and the original layer and merged them together. It sounds complicated, but once you do it a couple of times, it goes pretty quickly.

March Freebie Kits

I've become a digital scrapbooking freebie junkie. But having all those bits and pieces in a large variety of colors and styles is getting old. I find now that when I'm looking for backgrounds and elements to match a set of pictures, I look for a kit first. Some of the best freebie kits are sites that offer a new freebie kit each month. Here is the list of freebie kits I've found for the month of March.

Sweet Digi Creations
Shabby Shoppe
ScrapKitchen
Oscraps - one of my favorite designers (Leah Riordan) put up a new freebie this month
Peppermint Creative - this designer is incredibly generous. She gives away a huge kit every month and they are lots of fun.

These aren't monthly freebie kits, but somehow I missed them when I was searching for freebies before. There are quite a few coordinated samplers at www.digichick.com. You have to register to download them, but the quality and variety are worth it in my mind. The freebies here are called "Designer Samplers." Also, there are quite a few freebie kits at www.scrapartist.com.

Have fun and don't be afraid to leave a comment if you find any new freebie kits I don't have linked here.

Breezy Spring Portraits Layout

I've been trying to catch up on some old pictures to get them into the kids' scrapbooks. Isn't Meister a cutey!

Pumpkin Page

Stayed up WAY too late last night working on this (1 a.m.). Once I got going, I just couldn't stop! Journaling reads: "Before you were born, Daddy wrestled with your nickname. He has always had a special name for K (Sweets), and so before you were born he settled on one for you (Sugar). Although you are awfully sweet, “Pumpkin” seemed so natural for you that the other nicknames were soon forgotten. Now even Meister calls you “Punkin”, and you recognize it just as easily as your regular name."

Christmas Portrait Ordeal

Here's the newest scrapbook layout. Journaling reads:
Ok, now everyone stay still and look at the camera. Miah, you need to look here. Meister, keep your tongue behind your teeth. K, please put the grass down, S is going to try to eat it. Whoever cooperates can have ice cream when we get home, OK? Meister, that means you can’t be fussy. Can someone put S’s hat back on? Miah, put your head up straight. MIAH! No goofy smiles! K, can you get S’s hand out of her mouth?

Following a "Map"

Sometimes I find myself at a loss for how to arrange my scrapbook layouts. Especially when most published examples are of one page layouts. I like to be able to open the kids' scrapbooks up and have coordinating pages on each side, so I'm always looking for dual page ideas. I found a scrapbook sketch at Page Maps by Becky Fleck that I thought would work with my pictures, took the layout idea and 70 minutes later I had this:

I'm still not sure I like the style of the title, or even the title itself, so if anyone has any suggestions, please leave a comment! I can easily go back and change it before I get it printed.

Plimoth Plantation

The kids were watching Fetch with Ruff Ruffman yesterday and saw a second-long clip of Plimoth Plantation. "Mom! We went there!" The look of excitement on their faces gave me the motivation I needed to pull out these photos from our summer vacation to Plymouth and do some scrapping.

Pure Serenity

There were actually several versions of this layout before I got to one that I felt did justice to the portrait. I'm still working on the side that will be facing this page. I'm hoping to include some of the basic stuff we use during bathtime. It may be boring to us, but when S gets older she may enjoy seeing all the "antique" stuff we used.

K Scrapbooks Too

I ran across this scrapbook page that 7 year old K did a month or so ago. The whole idea was hers and hers alone. Can you tell that she wants to be an artist? Notice she even created a visual triangle with her three squares along the edges.
